Student Reviews
These are real reviews from our Google Business listing, quoted as written. Several were originally posted in Spanish and appear in Google's own translation.
Maiquela’s Cosmetology Academy has 177 reviews on its Google Business listing. The recurring positive themes are instruction in Spanish, instructors who take time to explain, and schedules that work around children — with several graduates describing going on to obtain a California licence.
We are not going to publish a star rating on this page. The business data we work from supplies a review count and not a score, and we would rather show you nothing than a number we cannot stand behind. The reviews themselves are on Google, where you can read all of them.
That includes the critical ones, and there are critical ones. Any school with eight years of public reviews has students who had a bad experience and said so. Read them. Look for patterns rather than isolated incidents, note what recurs across different students and different years, then come and see the classrooms before deciding anything.
What follows is a selection of reviews, grouped by what they talk about. Nothing has been rewritten.

Studying in Spanish
“I’m bilingual but I asked to get my books in English and test in English as well — there was no problem. This is an all Spanish school but I love it and the director of the school is very communicative and understanding of certain personal issues. Teachers are also very strict, which is no problem for me — even better, it teaches you how to be more reliable and more attentive to your school goals.”
“If you want to learn and become a licensed professional manicurist, Maiquela’s is the best option for studying, and the best part is that the classes are in Spanish. For me, since I don’t speak much English, it’s a huge help in fulfilling my dream of studying.”
“I love that this school is in Spanish; the teachers explain the lessons very well and are very kind. I’ve seen several schools, but they’re in English, and I still don’t speak the language well.”

Instructors
“Excellent school! I learned a lot, and the teachers are very qualified, especially Miss Orellana. The director is very kind and helpful. Thank you, Maiquela’s Cosmetology Academy!”
“I am very grateful for the experience of studying at Maiquela’s; they were always facilitators of my learning and accompanied me at every stage until I obtained my license, especially Miss Contreras, who did an excellent job as a teacher.”
“My experience at this school was amazing; I didn’t want my classes to end. The staff is fantastic. I’m so grateful to my teacher, Ms. Rivas, for her patience, time, and dedication to teaching her students. And thank you to Maiquela’s for the Spanish classes, which give Latinos the opportunity to learn what we love.”

Getting licensed
“I love that the classes are offered in Spanish. I studied there and got my license, and today I’m working as a teacher and professional manicurist.”
“It’s an excellent school; I obtained my manicure license there and now I’m studying cosmetology. I highly recommend it.”
“Excellent school, I highly recommend it. It’s properly accredited, and the State Board has already sent me my exam appointment, for which I feel very prepared thanks to the excellent teachers. Plus, the facilities are comfortable and modern.”
“One of the best schools to complete your hours and obtain your license. The teachers have the appropriate experience to explain step by step the points and techniques necessary to become a nail technician.”
“Coming from someone that went into the manicurist course without knowing anything, I believe the school and my teachers Ms. Perez and Ms. Sahagun have taught me and prepared me for my state board exam.”

Nail program
“Thanks to this school, I’ve gained the confidence to begin my career as a manicurist. They’ve taught me everything I need to get my license, and they’re very flexible with scheduling. The teacher and the director are wonderful. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow at this great school.”
“I took the manicure course at this academy and I’m truly delighted with everything I learned. The course is very comprehensive; they teach you everything from the basics to the latest nail systems. It’s both theoretical and practical.”
“I’m a student at this academy. I have learned a lot — from not being able to apply acrylic to being able to apply gel. I want to thank my teachers Mrs. Perez and Mrs. Sahagun for helping me and teaching me many techniques and inspiring me that if you have imagination and creativity you can get far.”

Schedules
“After almost a year, I finished my course. So many things happened to me, but nothing could stop me from finishing school. I worked nights and I’m a single mother; sometimes I didn’t have anyone to take care of my daughter. But thanks to the principal and Miss Perez, who encouraged me to finish school.”
“I love that the classes are in Spanish and the schedules are very flexible. I’m happy to be a student at this school.”
How to read beauty school reviews generally
Reviews are the most useful public information about a school and the easiest to misread. A single furious review from six years ago tells you very little. Five different people describing the same specific problem across three years tells you a great deal.
Look for specificity. A review that names a policy, a cost or an instructor is more informative than one that says "great school" or "terrible". And weigh recent reviews more heavily than old ones — schools change staff, policies and management.
Then do the thing reviews cannot do for you: visit, ask the nine questions worth asking on a tour, and ask to sit in on a class. That is worth more than every review you will read, at this school or any other.
