Inglewood students train at Maiquela’s Cosmetology Academy, 8511 Long Beach Blvd in South Gate — about nine miles east. Cosmetology, barbering, manicurist, esthetics and makeup programs are taught in Spanish. Call (323) 587-1750.
Inglewood has changed more in the last decade than almost any city in Los Angeles County. SoFi Stadium, the Intuit Dome and the surrounding development have reshaped the local economy and brought a wave of new hospitality and service business with them.
For the beauty trade that means genuine growth in demand — event work, game-day and concert traffic, and a hospitality workforce that needs services on a schedule. It is one of the more dynamic markets a newly licensed professional could enter.
What Inglewood students should know
Nine miles across the county is a real commute, and Inglewood has beauty schools closer to home — some of which also teach in Spanish. Students who make the trip generally do so because of how the Spanish is delivered here: the class runs in Spanish from the first hour rather than switching when someone looks lost. That is a fair question to put to any school, and we would rather you asked it of us than took it on trust.
For English-speaking students in Inglewood, it is worth being direct: the classroom runs in Spanish. English textbooks are available and the state exam can be taken in English, but the instruction itself is Spanish, and we would rather say so now than have you discover it after enrolling.
Textured-hair training is core curriculum here — dry cutting, curl-by-curl shaping, and fading across different densities and curl patterns. That is directly relevant to working in the Inglewood market.
Getting to class from Inglewood
The 105 east to the 710 north, then Firestone Boulevard west to Long Beach Blvd. Around nine miles and typically twenty-five minutes. Century Boulevard east is the surface alternative.
By transit, the Metro C Line runs east along the 105 corridor, connecting at Willowbrook to the A Line north toward Firestone station and a short bus connection to the campus. It is a longer trip but a workable one.

View programA market in the middle of changing
Inglewood has changed more in the past decade than almost any city in Los Angeles County. SoFi Stadium, the Intuit Dome and the Hollywood Park development have brought a wave of hospitality, retail and event business, and with it a substantial workforce that did not exist here ten years ago.
For the beauty trade that means genuine growth in two directions at once. Event and game-day traffic creates demand for appointments booked around a date — hair and makeup before an event, a barber appointment the morning of. And a growing hospitality workforce needs regular, presentation-driven services on shift-friendly hours. Market Street through downtown Inglewood remains the traditional commercial centre where much of the established trade sits. The city's long-standing Black community alongside a large and growing Latino population also makes competence across all hair textures a working requirement rather than an option — the same technical breadth that pays in Compton and Watts pays here.
The Inglewood picture
SoFi Stadium and the Intuit Dome anchor the Hollywood Park development on the site of the old racetrack. The Kia Forum sits nearby, and Market Street through downtown Inglewood remains the traditional commercial centre.
The city spans 90301 through 90305 and borders Hawthorne, Lennox, Westmont and the Los Angeles neighbourhoods of Ladera Heights and Baldwin Hills. LAX sits immediately southwest.
Inglewood has a long-established Black community alongside a large and growing Latino population, and the beauty trade here serves both — which again makes genuine competence across all hair textures a professional requirement rather than a specialisation.
